The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania recently held its annual Youth of the Year competition. Club members must be between the ages of 13 and 18 to participate. The first place winner received a $1,000 scholarship to a higher education institution of their choice. Pictured are participants (l-r), Abram Harris, Elijah Colon, Xavier Harris and Leasia Bauza.
The Club members were judged on family, school, community, and Boys & Girls Club involvement, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. After the judging, guest speakers and sponsors of the program, Pat Atkins (l-) and John Atkins (r) shared with the group why higher education is a wise choice to make after high school graduation. Leasia will participate in the Pennsylvania State Youth of the Year competition held in Pittsburgh representing the Boys & Girls Clubs of NEPA is early April.
